Growing Into My Wings is a gem of a read.

One might argue that I’m biased as I know Mel personally and purchased her book as an act of sisterly support- but in truth I loved this book!

Mel’s writing jumps from the page with a candid, fresh and genuine voice. One part memoir and one part ‘ guide for life’, Mel tells her fascinating story in an entertaining, fully relatable way. Such is her approachable style, the reader almost feels akin to a friend as he or she shares the trials and tribulations, the ups and downs of Mel’s life experience.

From humble loving beginnings in a typical German family, to travelling the world seeking her fortune and realising her potential in both personal and professional life, then actualising her dreams to have then have them come crashing down through bitter betrayal, Mel’s myriad adventures ring true, they are compelling. Why? Because we can all relate to her story, and we can all learn about ourselves by reading it.

Central themes include the struggle for healthy self esteem based on self knowledge and self advocacy NOT by allowing self definition at the hand of others, the ability to dream big and to make things happen, and the life skill of not only never giving up, but indeed working out how to keep going in a practical sense, through action, accountability and sheer force of personality.

On a personal note, although I felt the flow and pace of the story itself was somewhat hindered by detailed observations and questions for the reader at the end of each chapter, I understand why Mel included these- rightly so. As a leader and exemplary business person, Mel’s acumen and ability to ask the right questions of the reader for their personal self development and benefit are valuable. I found myself going over the life lessons and insights with a level of introspection and self reflection that prompted new resolve, new energy and new enthusiasm for achieving what I desire from my life.

Inspiration, self (re)invention and an uplifted spirit are what you can expect from this book. Should you wish to grow into your own wings and take flight? This is the book for you!

Liebe Mel, ich kannte Deine Geschichte schon in Teilen, aber dieses Buch ging so viel tiefer und ich konnte Deine emotionale Achterbahnfahrt so sehr fühlen. Ich bin begeistert von den Reflektionsfragen in jedem Kapitel, so dass man als Leser immer wieder darauf gestoßen wird, dass man aus Allem im Leben lernen kann! Hallo Melanie ich hab dein Buch beendet und weiß gar nicht was ich sagen soll! Noch nie hat mich ein Buch so berührt! Einfach so toll geschrieben und einfach unfassbar wie stark du für deine Jungs warst bzw. bist! Ich habe auch zwei Boys und deine Widmung zum Schluss an die beiden ist einfach so aus dem Herzen gesprochen! Du bist wirklich toll!!!! Ich werde dein Buch ganz sicher nochmal Im leben lesen!!!

What an inspiring read!

I absolutely loved the detail that Mel went into painting the picture of her Journey. Having gone through struggle myself, I really felt the pain and emotions with every chapter I read. She is so raw and real with everything she speaks of. Her character and personality really shines through. It feels like you are sitting with her, listening over a glass of wine. 

I felt truly inspired by a lot of what she said. It has also given me motivation to keep moving forward and striving for more.

Mel is a great role model and her story should be discovered by many more. I highly recommend this easy, uplifting read!
